Me Myself & I

I'm so excited to post for a link up party. This is my first time and I'm totally nuts about it. So anyway, I thought this is actually a great venue for me to write something when I am way out of inspiration to do so.

1. When you're feeling down, what do you do to pick yourself up?
Generally I'm a worrier, and when I worry too much about things, I get depressed. I thought that maybe God has witnessed my thoughts during those not so happy times coz He gave me my wonderful kids. Really, being with my kids, snuggling and hugging them, playing with them, makes my day a whole lot brighter. Always, I am reminded that whatever trouble I'm facing right now, it's only just one aspect of my life. It's just a chunk of it and it shouldn't affect my entire being. As long as I have the love of my kids, I think I'm gonna get through everything.

2. If you had to live in a different time period which would you prefer?
The 80s? I was born on the 80s. The radio plays all sorts of Carpenter songs, and Barry Manilow, and Abba of course.

They're my childhood-memory-bringer. My childhood meant so much for me coz then, I didn't care much about the world, I just cared about my playmates, and what other things we can play with together haha! For me, the world back then was a lot less complicated.

3. What is the most creative Halloween costume you've ever worn?
Nothing. I've never been into that kind of a party. Geez! But given a chance, I'd like that outfit worn by Elena Gilbert on TVD. Cute, don't you think?

4. Five weird things about you we wouldn't know without being told?

>I used to put fine sands on top of my head, and get it off by tilting my head, then put the sands back again. That was one of my past times when I was about 6 years old (I think this is the weirdest you can ever get).
>Of all the household chores, doing the laundry is my favorite. The more, the better. I don't know why but doing more laundry is so therapeutic for me.
>My after-shower-ceremonies are always in the same and exact order. (lotion-sanitary liner-facial moisturizer-deodorant-jeans-brasserie-blouse)
>I always wake up ahead of my alarm clock.
>I love everything heart shaped, or anything with a heart image on it just as long as it's not colored red.

5. What would you tell your 16-year-old self?
You are lucky, your problems are only composed of sometimes-annoying parents and exams. When you get a little older and be a parent yourself, you'll understand why parents behave the way they do; and exams are so much easier compared to every difficulty that comes with adulthood. I'm gonna close it with something like

enjoy it while it lasts...

Family Day

It has been a crazy week for me. I haven't been online much, and when I did, I discovered that my bestfriend's father just died last September 18 and I felt so sad specially because I only knew about it 2 days after. My bestfriend is based in Manila for work but her family resides in General Santos City, She flew from Manila a day after her father died. I love this girl so much that I wanna be there right when  the news broke and as soon as she's here. So I decided to go to Gensan immediately to offer her family  my condolences. I was a little bit dramatic, that's just me. To my surprise, they didn't seem to be all gloomy, well, there is a little hint of it but it doesn't show. Nonetheless, I still feel depressed, I mean there's no telling how the whole family felt about this death, specially my bestfriend, she easily gets hurt she easily cries and I can't even imagine how she's coping. But I know she's strong and she'll get through it. I felt ok when we went home cause I know she's gonna be fine, maybe not now, but in the  near future.

This is us on our way home. It was 10pm, it was my husban'd's idea to bring the kids along. He likes to bring the whole family whenever we go somewhere, he's always been like that.
Family

On the brighter side, my youngest daughter is having their family day in school. It was supposed to be the whole family that should attend but unfortunately my husband needs to go back to work (he's a police officer assigned in Cotabato City). So when it was time for us to be whole and to be together, he just couldn't make it, but it's for his work so I have to swallow the whole idea, some days are better than the others right? So it's just us then in this whole "Family Day" thing - ok that felt like I'm complaining, I'm not (maybe a little? ^.^).

It's 6am and the kids are awake to rehearse their swimsuits. They're not usually up until 9am. Excited.

The Venue.

Can't wait. Excited. Mommy is nervous. All of the above.

Look who's hungry and nibbling.

Nibbling again.

Now sleeping... Must be tired. Oh look, My hair is short.

I've been all out watching for them, specially the part when Iya (the youngest) fell asleep in my arm. Seeing Kane (the eldest), swimming in the adult's pool, when I specifically instructed her not to. She's been dying to swim into it, reasoning to me that her swim ring can save her if I'm worried about her drowning. But no mother in her right mind would let her 5-year old go swimming in a 6ft-deep-pool. As it turned out, she just waited until I wasn't in the pool side, she just can't resist the adventure, being the hard headed kiddo that she is. I was almost hysterical, but tried to keep my calm, saying to myself "please God let her be safe". I salute her bravery but I wouldn't allow her to do that ever again, not until she's old enough, when? I don't know. Watching her swim in that pool while holding the already-sound-sleeping baby Iya, made me feel so helpless. What if something happened to Kane? Couldn't stomach thinking about it. Not ever.

Except for that heart-attack-inducing moment, everything went fine and we were home safe, tired, and happy later that day (5pm). My eldest stayed long enough in the pool until we were about to go home and the whole event has ended. It's been a big day for the three of us, I wish there would be more times like that, maybe with my husband the next time?

Book Review: School's Out Forever by James Patterson

Hi Guys! After a long pause, here now is an update from me and it's gonna be a book review. Yay! This is my first time to post a book review since this blog was born (meaning since this blog has been active - like just 3 months ago), and I'm really excited about it because reading books is one of the many undefined interests of mine.

I hope I can give justice to my reviews. I mean I'm not an author (and I don't see myself being one), who knows a lot about technicalities of writing a book. I'm gonna do a review based on my reaction to the book as a reader, not someone who actually looks for some errors in writing and its technical aspects.

Being a "slight" bookworm myself (slight because I just discovered the wonders of reading books about 2 years ago), I have read a lot of books from genres like YA, fiction, fantasy, dystopian, etc., except for history, I think. The latest I have read is entitled School's Out Forever from James Patterson, I'm a fan.

School's Out Forever Book Cover

This is the second book in the Maximum Ride Series. It follows the life of 6 kids who were mutated and turned into avian hybrids - mutant bird kids. All of them where kidnapped when they were little so they didn't know their parents at all. They have just escaped from the "school" which was actually a secret lab where they were being experimented on. Through out the story, these kids went into running from Erasers, who are made to destroy them if they ever escape from The School.

Brave bird-kid Max and her flock fly south on a perilous quest to find their parents, after having rescued Angel and recovered secret documents about their origins. But just when they think they've finally escaped the hungry claws of evil Erasers, they're discovered by an FBI agent and forced to face perhaps an even worse nightmare: going to school. There's no such thing as an ordinary day when Max's "homework" includes decoding documents, deciphering when (and how) she's supposed to save the world, and learning to face what may be her greatest enemy: herself. A clone. Max II.

The story is told by Max (full name: Maximum Ride, clever huh!), the main protagonist and the leader of the flock. I just love how strong she is, although sometimes she gets tired of constantly just looking after the flock but she doesn't show it. She's so strong, fast, wittingly sarcastic, she seemed so indestructible but vulnerable at the same time. The other characters are pretty interesting too.

I enjoyed this book a lot. Although I know I'm a little too old to be enjoying books whose main characters are kids but hey, we all love good stories don't we? And this one was written intelligently in a way that even young adult can enjoy and not feel awkward about it. And who doesn't love a good fantasy? Of heroes, saving the world like "The Avengers" and stuff? (And Xmen BTW)

Have you read this book?

Weekend Snaps

Snaps from this weekend. I love going to my in law’s house. It’s only a 30-minute drive from us and every visit is worth all the ride. This week my husband was one of the many (there were 67!) who was chosen to be a godfather  to a friend’s son. The whole gang attended the christening – me, our daughters baby Iya & Kane, and of course my husband Louie. The reception was held at Casten Place, Norala South Cotabato.

I honestly don’t know this little one , but she’s the cutest fairy-looking child I’ve seen and she keeps running around she never get’s tired with all her wand and pink wings on her back.

Oh now she’s tired but I’m still impressed, she’s not cranky at all.

This tree house is one of the few I’ve ever seen in my life.

I believe weekends are created so you can get some time off from work. But nowadays, people are too busy to even notice what day it was (charge me guilty on this one). Well, so long as you still take a time to just relax and have a break, spend some quality time with the people you love, it doesn’t matter if it’s weekend or not.

How's your weekend so far?

Blake & Ryan Just Got Married!

I first read about this news from facebook, and I can't believe it! I mean she's just 25 and she's married? Not that I don't want her to, or I thought she's just too young (hello! I got married when I was 21), but I guess I have always thought that with everything going on in her career and all, marriage is not on her to do lists, specially not this year. But that's just me, and my mind over reacting. So moving on, allow me to share with you this story (well not the whole story of course).

Blake Lively is one of my favorites, and why not? She just looks lovely in almost everything she wears. And I love her character on Gossip Girl.

According to Instyle.com, Ryan Reynolds and Blake lively got married last September 9, 2012. And would you believe where it was held? *Drum rolls* The ceremony was held at the Boone Hall Plantation in Mt. Pleasant -read- The Notebook house!

I remember it was in the movie Green Lantern when I first saw these two together, and that was only a year ago. I think that was the last movie my husband and I watched together (Now that I mention it, I miss movie dates with him).

Who knew that it would be the beginning of it all? And yet this wedding is just another start of a (hopefully) wonderful  ending. I certainly look forward to a lasting relationship between the two.

Let's celebrate love!

Stop And Smell the Flowers

So, It's been like forever since I wrote something in my (neglected) blog, honestly I'm out of words right now and it's eating up my conscience not to update you guys with anything. Consider this post as a "filler" for times like these when my mind just won't decide on something to write about.

Anyway, if you guys happen to read my post entitled The Greenhouse Effect, you would know that I love nature, being with nature (imagining I'm Jane of Tarzan) and looking at it. So whenever I came across beautiful works of nature, I immediately grab photos and eternalize them. Here are just some of the photos I took when I was out walking along the park. I think maybe it was last week when I took these photos, not sure really, I was just scanning my computer for pictures and I can't help but admire them and I wanna share it with you.
